POC Single Application

Points of Contact Application for Representation

Thank you for your interest in being represented through Points of Contact: Volunteer Matchmaking Ltd (CC) (ID 516754926) ("POC"). POC coordinates an all-volunteer, closed, confidential matchmaking community, consisting of hundreds of Point People, that is volunteer matchmakers, from Israel, the United States and other countries, whose aim is to introduce Jewish English-speakers who are seeking a partner for Jewish marriage ("Point People"). There is no charge for this service.

How It Works

The person who signs and submits this application, as identified below, ("you" or “yourself”) will be represented on POC by one of the Point People who will serve as your matchmaker ("your Point Person"). Your Point Person will either be someone who already knows you well or else will interview you in depth and speak to references you provide. You can either submit a personal dating resume ("Profile”) or have your Point Person create a Profile for you. The items required for a Profile are listed below. Including pictures in your Profile is optional but highly recommended. Each single’s Profile is posted on POC’s closed Facebook group which is only accessible to Point People.

Making a Match

Your Point Person and other Point People will review your Profile and recent photos and try to find a suitable match for you. When a Point Person finds what he or she thinks is a suitable match, the two Point People representing the two singles will confer with one another to see if they both think that the match is worth pursuing. If both Point People agree, the Point People will then decide which single will first receive the information. Only when there is an affirmative answer from the first single will the Profile be sent to the second single. If both singles agree to the match, they will be given contact information in order to set up the first date.

In general, the only contact you have with POC and the Point People is through your Point Person. If a direct discussion about a match between you and a different Point Person is needed at any time, both you and your Point Person must consent.

In almost all cases, this form should be signed only after you have a Point Person lined up. If you do not now have one, or you're not sure, you can sign the form now if you wish, with the name of the person who sent you the link to this form listed as Current Point Person, but you must also write to PointsOfContactHelp@gmail.com to explain your circumstances.

If the name listed under Current Point Person is not that of a Point Person who has agreed to represent you and we do not receive an email from you explaining matters, then no action will be taken on your application.

You are also welcome to send such an email without first signing the form. In this case, you would sign after you know the name of your Point Person.

If it turns out that you do not have a Point Person, we will check if there is a Point Person who is willing and able to represent you. We will do our best to find you one, but we can make no promises about whether we will succeed or how long it will take.

Your Responsibilities

To be represented through POC, you must agree to these rules:

A. Providing Information

You agree to provide true, accurate, current, and complete information about yourself, including the following:

Height
Country of origin
Current location (country and city or town)
Education
Profession and work
Hashkafa, level of religious observance
Marital status (never married, divorced, or widowed)
A brief description of yourself
A brief description of the type of person you are looking for, including the age range you are willing to date in (number of years younger / older than you are)
Any other relevant information requested by your Point Person. For example, if your current location is Israel, but your country of origin is the United States, then you might be asked to provide your year of aliya (if applicable) and level of fluency in Hebrew.

This information (the "Provided Information") must be included in the Profile or resume that you send to your Point Person. If you don’t already have a Profile, your Point Person will include the Provided Information in the Profile that is created for you.

POC also strongly recommends that you provide at least two pictures that were taken within the last year, one headshot and one full body for the Facebook post. This is not a requirement, but photos often result in more suggestions for matches from Point People in the group via your Point Person. If you provide photos, they are considered part of your Provided Information.

You consent, of your own free will and although not required to do so under law, that the Provided Information (including photos, if provided) will be held and managed by POC for the purpose of confidential matchmaking activity, and that POC will be entitled to transfer any of the Provided Information to your Point Person, to other Point People (including by posting it on POC’s closed Facebook group), and to other singles whenever, in the sole discretion of POC (including that of any Point Person), this is necessary to check a possible match. The Provided Information will be used and transferred for legitimate purposes only and in order to fulfill POC's purposes.

If any Provided Information becomes out-of-date, you agree to update your Point Person within a reasonable time. Your Point Person will then update your Profile as posted on Facebook with the new information. You can ask your Point Person for a copy of your posted Profile at any time.

B. Maintaining the Confidentiality of Profiles

You agree that during your representation as a single on POC and for an unlimited period of time thereafter, you will not share, misuse, disclose, transfer and/or make available to any third party, directly or indirectly, whether verbally or in writing, any Profiles, photos, or other items of information that were sent to you as a part of your representation as a single on POC, as these are confidential. This is to protect the privacy of both parties.

Without derogating from the above, if you receive a suggestion from your Point Person, you are allowed to share only the name with others outside of POC for consultation. You may never share with others the photos or Profiles that were sent to you.

C. Respectful Communication

Everyone deserves respect. Politeness should be at the heart of everything a person does. And one should always be kind, caring and considerate of others. Therefore, preferably within 24 hours or, at most, within 48 hours (excluding Shabbat and Yom Tov) of being given a phone number, please contact your date. If this is not feasible, contact your Point Person to explain the delay.

Similarly, if your Point Person proposes a match, you should give your decision about it within 24 to, at most, 48 hours whenever possible (excluding Shabbat and Yom Tov). If you need more time due to special circumstances, explain the situation to your Point Person and agree with them on a date and time by which you will provide a yes or no answer regarding the proposed match.

“Ghosting” is not allowed on POC. (Ghosting is the practice of ending a personal relationship with someone by suddenly and without explanation withdrawing from all communication.) If ghosting happens more than once, you may be removed from POC.

D. Ending representation

If you no longer wish to be represented through POC at any time, for any reason, simply notify your Point Person in writing. You agree to promptly notify your Point Person that you should no longer be represented if you get married or publicly announce your engagement, even if you did not meet the person you married or became engaged to through POC. You also acknowledge and agree that POC may, at its sole discretion, decide that you should no longer be represented through POC at any time, for any reason.

E. Legal Disclaimers of Warranties and Limitations of Liability

All references to POC in this section include both POC as an organization and its officers, Facebook group administrators, and Point People as individuals.

As a single represented through POC, you agree to accept all of the disclaimers of warranties and limitations of liability below.

These disclaimers of warranties and limitations of liability shall be interpreted in a manner that, to the extent possible, most closely approximates an absolute disclaimer and waiver of all liability. However, nothing in these disclaimers of warranties and limitations of liability is intended to disclaim, limit or exclude any warranty or basis of liability that it would be unlawful to disclaim, to limit or to exclude. Where disclaimers of warranties and/or limitations of liability are not allowed by law, in full or in part, these disclaimers and limitations may not apply to you.

You agree that the success of matchmaking is dependent on various factors, including individual preferences and compatibility, which are beyond POC's control. Therefore, POC shall not be held liable for any damages, losses, or claims arising out of or related to the matchmaking, including but not limited to, unsuccessful matches, dissatisfaction with the introductions, or any emotional distress experienced as a result of the matchmaking process.

You represent and warrant that all information provided to your Point Person or to POC is true, accurate, and complete to the best of your knowledge. You understand that providing false or misleading information may hinder the effectiveness of the matchmaking process. You agree to promptly inform your Point Person of any changes to your personal information or circumstances that may affect your eligibility for matchmaking.

POC does not perform any background checks on its singles, nor does it have either the responsibility or the resources to do screening, verifying or validating of information. It is your responsibility to take any steps you deem appropriate to safeguard and protect your own personal safety and security. POC shall not be held liable for any damages arising from inaccurate or misleading information.

You agree that POC does not guarantee or warrant finding a suitable match for you. The matchmaking provided by your Point Person is based on best efforts, but POC and your Point Person do not assume any obligation to secure a successful match for you.

POC cannot and does not assume responsibility for any breach of your privacy or any risk to your safety that occurs as a result of any contact you have with another person associated with POC, including, but not limited to, other singles.

You understand that the use of social media (including, but not limited to, Facebook and WhatsApp) for matchmaking, even in a closed group, creates risks to the security of your Provided Information, and you release POC from all liability resulting from such use of social media.

Except to the extent required by law, POC cannot and does not guarantee the security of any information that you provide, nor does it take responsibility for any use made by others of such information. It is your responsibility to use reasonable judgment and common sense regarding the scope of the information that you provide, whether as part of your Profile or otherwise.

POC cannot and does not assume responsibility for the content of any communication you receive from another person associated with POC, including, but not limited to, other singles.

The services offered to you by POC are offered “as-is” and “as-available”. POC makes no representations or warranties of any kind concerning these services, whether express, implied, statutory, or other. This includes, without limitation, warranties of title, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, absence of latent or other defects, accuracy or the presence or absence of errors, whether or not known or discoverable.

To the extent possible, in no event will POC be liable to you on any legal theory (including, without limitation, negligence) or otherwise for any direct, special, indirect, incidental, consequential, punitive, exemplary, or other losses, costs, expenses, or damages arising out of your use of POC’s services, even if POC has been advised of the possibility of such losses, costs, expenses, or damages.

F. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless POC and all persons associated with it, including, without limitation, all Point People, all officers or employees (if any) and all third parties, for any losses, liabilities or other expenses (including reasonable fees charged by an attorney or a rabbinical pleader) incurred by POC or by any such Point Person, officer, employee or third party as a result of your use of the services provided by POC, including, without limitation, any actions taken by you that violate this agreement.

G. Choice of Law

This agreement is governed by the law of the State of Israel, and any claim arising out of your use of the services provided by POC shall be adjudicated in Israel. To the extent allowed by law, you and POC agree that any such claim will be adjudicated before a rabbinical court of the “Eretz Hemda — Gazit” organization according to halakha. In the event that this becomes necessary, you agree to sign an arbitration agreement in the form prescribed by Eretz Hemda — Gazit, a copy of which (in Hebrew) can be found on its website, www.beitdin.org.il. If you believe that the use of this forum for arbitration would put you at an unfair disadvantage for any reason, you and POC agree to work together to select an alternative forum for arbitration that is acceptable to both sides.

H. Supersedes Prior Agreements

This agreement supersedes and cancels any and all prior agreements for representation made between You and POC or between You and any predecessor organization, group or individual operating under the name(s) "POC" and/or "Points of Contact" and/or any variation thereof.
